Graduations are a time of intense emotions – relief, joy, anxiety, excitement, sadness – and mark a significant milestone in a young person’s life. We caution everyone on some sobering information: The percentage of automobile fatalities that involve alcohol jumps from 33% to 40% on graduation night, which is a testament to how drinking and driving spikes when kids are in the mood to party. One-third of those under the age of 21 who die in accidents lose their lives during graduation season and, not surprisingly, the vast majority of these expire in car crashes.
Please – DO NOT drink and drive. DO NOT get in the car with someone who has been drinking, even a little bit. Call a cab, call Uber, call your parents or another trusted driver. The future is too bright and full of promise!
Prevention takes many forms. Having conversations with your children is one free and easily accessible thing to do. Did you know that teens whose parents told them underage drinking is completely unacceptable are 80% less likely to drink! (Source: Drug Free Action Alliance). The power of a few words can make an enormous difference in a teen’s life
The counselors office will close at 8:20 a.m. on May 22, 23, and 24 as they prepare for graduation and work on diplomas.

Kennesaw Mountain has been named to the Washington Post’s Most Challenging schools for 2017. **
This year, only 12 percent of the approximately 22,000 U.S. public high schools were placed on this national list. This puts KMHS in the top 5 % of all high schools in the country. Now that’s pretty impressive!
