Your KMHS PTSA is a 501(c) charitable organization that runs on memberships and donations. This year, our school wide PTSA memberships are under what they have been in previous years. Our business partners are fewer than in past years and donations are down. We could use a financial boost to round out the year.
Your donations are fully tax deductible so please remember us in your year-end giving. If you’re asking ~ what does the PTSA really do for me/my student/the school? Here are just a few of the events and programs we help fund.
Senior Scholarships for College
Free College Application & Essay Writing Workshops
Reflections Art Competition for Students
Senior Treats & Year End Activity
Student PTSA Membership Treats
Teacher Appreciation Meals in November, January, April
Homecoming Food & Drink
Clothing, Gift Card, and other drives for our students in need
Monthly Food Pantry for our families in need
Weekly School Home Communication
Financial support for school events/programs/educational needs as requested
Thank-you for considering your KMHS PTSA in your end of the year giving!
We are a group of diverse students and adults from many different corners and cultures of our school and community. We believe that life has ups and downs, that all of us will go through good times and tough times. Our mission is to ensure that during the rough times no one gets so overwhelmed or hopeless that they want to give up.
Our mission is to spread Hope, Help, and Strength into every corner of our community.
We help students and staff turn to their strengths and supporters. Our mission recognizes that our voice has great power and we use it to BREAK the SILENCE when someone is struggling, and to connect them to the help they need and deserve.
We Spread Hope by focusing on stories of strength, rather than on stories of trauma. We know our most powerful impact comes from our personal actions, conversations, and messages that use our music, our art, our writing, our activities, our social media, our culture, and our voice. This gives life to our efforts.
We are Sources of Strength
This week during homeroom all students voted for their Trusted Adult. A trusted adult is a person you can trust when you are facing an obstacle and/or struggling. These names will be posted in the cafeteria. All teachers voted for will be recognized. Special recognition will be given to the top 5 vote receivers.
*Sources of Strength is a universal suicide prevention program designed to build protective influences around youth and to reduce the likelihood that vulnerable youth/young adults will become suicidal.
If you are signed up to be a SWAM mentor, your last chance to attend a REQUIRED MEETING is Tuesday morning at 7:45 in the theatre.
The meeting will cover the responsibilities of being a mentor and what will happen the day of SWAM. Shop with a Mustang has been a KMHS tradition for many years.
The 3rd annual SWAMathon, KMTV’s telethon for Shop with a Mustang, aired LIVE on Friday, December 8th, during 1st and 2nd blocks.
Students and families are STILL encouraged to donate to the telethon as donations will greatly help with reaching the SWAM budget. First block classes brought their donations to KMTV so the students could be featured during the show. Classes were competing to raise the most money. The telethon has raised thousands of dollars in years past and we hope to raise even more this year! Coaches Hare and Whitt were the hosts.
Coin Wars is a fundraiser for Shop with a Mustang where all grades compete against each other to have the highest amount of money donated to SWAM. Coins being added to the class bucket will help with the class total. Dollar bills added to a class total will subtract from their totals. Students are encouraged to bring in any spare change they have to add to their class total AND bring in dollar bills to put in other classes buckets to subtract from their totals. The buckets are located in the KMHS lunch room during all lunches.
Students are encouraged to donate either three rolls of Holiday wrapping paper for one community service hour or one regular size bottle of pancake syrup for two community service hours. Items need to be dropped off to Room 316 by Friday December 15th.

Throughout the year PTSA recognizes certain staff members for their hard work with our kids. During the holiday season we like to recognize the administrative, secretarial, custodial, nurse, counseling, police officer and cafeteria staff behind the scenes who do so much to make KMHS a great school.
THANK-YOU TO ALL OF THOSE WHO HAVE ALREADY SIGNED UP TO DONATE. If you have not signed up yet, there is still time.
Please donate the fruit items below to help us accomplish building fruit baskets THIS THURSDAY. All donations need to be in the front office by Wednesday December 6th. Thank-you in advance for joining us in this effort.
This December, from now until the Holiday Break, the PTSA will be hosting a Gift Card Drive. All gift cards will be held by the school social worker, who will distribute them throughout the school year when a student has an emergency need. This GIFT CARD drive is replacing the traditional “Giving Tree” where specific items were purchased for specific family members to be distributed during the holidays. Our social worker says with so many organizations helping around Christmas time, it is better to have gift cards that can be given out when a need arises. Again, 100% of this drive will stay with the KMHS student family. Thank-you for your help. Gift cards should be turned in to the front office by Wednesday Dec 20th.
