Founded and sponsored by the National Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependence (NCADD), Alcohol Awareness Month was established in 1987 to help reduce the stigma so often associated with alcoholism by encouraging communities to reach out to the American public each April with information about alcohol, alcoholism and recovery. Alcoholism is a chronic, progressive disease, genetically predisposed and fatal if untreated. However people can and do recover. In fact, it is estimated that as many as 20 million individuals and family members are living lives in recovery!
Did you know that teens whose parents told them underage drinking is completely unacceptable are 80% less likely to drink! (Source: Drug Free Action Alliance). If you’ve noticed any changes in your child’s behavior, don’t be afraid to err on the side of caution. Prepare to take action and have a conversation where you ask direct questions like “Have you been drinking or using drugs?” While no parent wants to hear “yes,” being prepared for how to respond can be the starting point for a more positive outcome.
Yearbook applications can be found at the Mane Link desk in the cafeteria and on the door of room 306. If you would like to be in yearbook, please pick up a form and return it by Wednesday, April 26th. We will not be accepting late applications as deadlines are very important to yearbook. If you have questions or concerns, please e-mail Mrs. Hoover at Holly.Hoover@cobbk12.org .
